JUMP WEEK

We would like to say thank-you to everyone who participated in the fundraising effort. Our school will be helping others with our donations. All students can help take care of their own heart by getting lots of physical activity. Skipping is a great heart healthy activity. April 29th to May 2nd skipping takes place at lunch recess and everyone can participate. We hope to get 100% of our school skipping!

Monday = Grade 6 and 2

Tuesday = Grade 5 and 1

Wednesday = Grade 4 and Kindergarten

Thursday = Grade 3

Fundraising Total = $5031.70

READING WEEK

May 6th to 10th there are special activities planned each day of the week .

I  LOVE TO READ WEEK

Reading Week will be happening at Greater Gatineau School from May 6th to 10th. The following events will be taking place:

The author Catherine Austen will be coming to give presentations to all the classes at some point during the week.

Monday  – Make-a-Bookmark

Students will all get to design and make their own custom bookmark.

O Canada song will be replaced with “Gotta Keep Reading”.

Check out YouTube for lyrics if you want to practice at home.

Tuesday – Promote a Book

During class time each student is expected to advertise a book they would recommend for others to read.

Wednesday – Poetry Day

Teachers will read poetry to their classes and students will create a Poem-in-your-Pocket to display.

Thursday – A-B-C Game Day

Different games to take place during the day in class.

Literacy Challenge at lunch for selected students from Grades 6, all students from grade 3-6 can attend the event as spectators.

Friday – Dress-Up Day

Encourage students to come to school dressed up as a story book character. It could be from a fiction book, a comic book, a fairytale, or any other book.

READ-A-THON

A Read-a-thon form will be sent home on Monday, May 6th. Please record your reading activities and return the form to school on Friday, May 10th.

Our goal is to have 30,000 minutes (500 hours) of reading as a school.

If the students reach the goal Mrs. Link and Mrs. Smith will be dressed as clowns on Monday, May 13th.

DAYCARE WEEK

May 13th to 17th is Quebec School Daycare Week. This week is to recognize the importance of the complementary role of school daycares in the school team. Wednesday May 15th is the “Journee de reconnaissance du personnel en garde scolaire”.

FINAL EXAMS

When planning holidays or appointments please keep the following dates in mind for your children:

May 1st to 15th – Grade 5 Enriched French exams

May 8th to 21st – Grade 6 French Exam core and enriched

May 6th – 14th – Grade 6 English Language Arts Exam

May 15th to May 29th – Grade 4 French Exams core and enriched

June 3rd to June 7th – Grades 2 and 4 Math Exam

June 3rd to 14th – Grade 6 Math Exam

TRACK & FIELD DAYS

Greater Gatineau School will be having their Track and Field Day on Tuesday, May 21st for students from Kindergarten to Grade 3  and on Wednesday, May 22nd for students in Grade 4, 5 & 6.

The Board Wide Track and Field day is Friday, May 31st and students who are chosen to represent our school will get more information later. It is a PD day for our school but we will still be attending the event at D’Arcy McGee High School.
