November Special Notes

Date: October 30, 2018 Author: Jennifer Plaxton Categories: News Bits

On Sunday, November 4th, 2018 daylight saving time ends. So please remember at 2:00 a.m. to turn your clocks back one hour.

On November 6. 2018 at 7pm there is a Support Group for parents with children with special needs.

It is held at Connexions Resource Centre. 80 Daniel-Johnson St, Gatineau (East-side entrance of Hadley-Philemon Wright High School)

RSVP at 819-777-3206 or at Refreshments provided. Free Parking.

Join us as we talk about available health & social services in the Outaouais for our families while we create a mental health first-aid kit for our child.

The girls’ grade 6 wellness group has been running twice a week at lunch since the beginning of September.

Providing a wellness program to the girls in grade 6 is allowing them to learn about, and discuss, issues that are important to them.

Our goal in running this program is to instill confidence and build positive behaviours, as well as health and leadership skills. While they warm–up, as they run, and when they cool down, we discuss issues such as positive self-talk, healthy body image, standing up for oneself and others, and understanding unrealistic media images and messages.

The final 5km run will take place on November 3rd as part of The Cookie Run, presented by Bushtukah.

We will be collecting canned food, pickles, pasta, rice, toothpaste, laundry detergent, and any other non-perishable items from Wednesday, November 21st, 2018 to Wednesday, December 12th, 2018.  Please make sure that you check the expiration dates on the items.  Please give generously so we will have enough items to help out some families in our school.

You can choose an angel tag which would have “boy” or “girl” marked on it with their age. You would purchase an age appropriate gift valued at approximately $20.00.  You wrap the gift and send it back to the school with the angel tag taped onto the gift so we can make sure it gets to the right person.

If you are interested in an Angel Tag, please drop by the office or Daycare and take one off the tree. If you are unable to drop by the school you can call the office at 819-663-4842 and we will be happy to send one home with your child.

We ask that you write your name, phone number and the angel tag number on the sheet that is provided beside the tree. This will help us keep track of who has the Angel Tag and ensure that all children receive a gift.

Please make sure that all gifts are returned to school no later than Wednesday, December 12th, so they can be organized.  Christmas is for children and we hope you can help us put as many smiles as we can on the faces of Greater Gatineau students.
