Homework Assignments

Regular homework teaches children a sense of responsibility and provides an essential link between home and school.  Parents should be:

  • Providing a quiet place for reading and doing homework
  • Choosing a time when you will be available to help your child
  • Asking questions about the work
  • Reading the instructions along with the child if necessary and making sure they understand
  • Encouraging their child by saying how confident they are that the child can succeed

Include homework time in your child’s daily schedule along with all other activities. At home, prioritize homework. A good rule of thumb is 10 minutes per grade level (i.e. Cycle 1 Year 1 would do 10 minutes, Cycle 2 – Year 2 would do 40 minutes etc.) If your child is over the suggested limit call the classroom teacher to discuss it.
